Grief and Grace: Finding Purpose in Life’s Transitions

Sunlit autumn forest with tall trees and golden leaves. A path covered in fallen leaves leads into the distance, creating a serene mood.
A serene forest path blanketed in golden autumn leaves, illuminated by warm sunlight filtering through the trees.

Life has a way of ushering us into seasons we knew would come one day, but were not quite ready for. Seasons of change, loss and milestones that nudge us to pause, reflect, and decide what matters most to us and how we’ll move forward.

The past few years have been just that for me. Tender, stretching, and refining. A season of grief, but also one of unexpected grace.

Walking Through Loss and Change

I walked the rite of passage and sacred path of saying goodbye to both of our parents. It was a journey that required not just heartbreaking farewells, but the arduous task of cleaning out their home and rehoming a lifetime of belongings. Each box, each drawer, each card, letter and photo carried memories that brought both tears and gratitude.

In the same week we went to closing on the house, I turned 65, a milestone that stopped me in my tracks. It wasn’t just a birthday. It was an invitation to ask: What really matters most now? What am I called to give, to live, to leave behind in this autumn chapter of my life?

Then, as we wrapped up the month of August, I stepped down from a local leadership role and passed the baton to someone that is far more aligned to that role than I was. The timing could not have been more perfect for both of us. It created the space I needed to rest, reflect, and realign with what this next season of my life was calling me toward.

The Lessons of Grief and Grace

Grief has a way of stripping life down to what’s essential. It slows us, sobers us, and asks us to listen deeply. Grace, on the other hand, slips in like sunlight through the trees—reminding us that even in loss, there is love; even in endings, there is renewal.

Together, grief and grace have taught me that while some seasons close, others open before us with rekindled vision, fresh clarity, and a deepened sense of purpose.

Finding Purpose in Transition

As I’ve walked through these changes, I’ve realized that our later chapters are not about winding down. They’re about showing up fully and wholeheartedly. They’re about taking the wisdom, faith, and resilience we’ve gained, and channeling them into the lasting legacy we're building now and will one day leave behind.

For me, that’s Sage Success Studio—the space where I walk alongside women like me, in their autumn season of life, who know there is still more story to tell, more wisdom to share, and more legacy to live. There's still time for us to lead with wisdom and experience we've acquired over the decades, build with rekindled vision and doing our most Signature Work with renewed purpose and intention.

A Word for You

If you’re walking through a season of transition—whether it’s loss, a milestone birthday, stepping away from a role, or simply sensing life shifting beneath your feet—please remember: you don’t walk this path alone.

Your wisdom is still vital. Your voice still carries weight. And your legacy is still unfolding in powerful ways.

This chapter can become one of your most meaningful yet, if you lean into it with grace, clarity, and courage.

If this resonates with you, I’d love to continue the journey together. You can stay connected through my Sage Success Studio community, where I share reflections, resources, and opportunities for women 55+ to unearth and amplify their most Signature Work. Come and join us!
